We already know that the Nexus One and other HTC phones will get a Froyo update, but what about other phones? Well, Motorola Droid owners wondering if their beloved handset will be getting Android 2.2 need not worry.
The handset-maker already plans to make Froyo available via an update before too long. Slashgear reached out to Motorola over the weekend in hopes of getting it to open up about the latest version of the platform. Not surprisingly, the company was somewhat vague in its response.
We’re excited to see Google’s news of the next version of the Android operating system and look forward to integrating it on our Android-based devices as it’s made available to the open source community. While I can’t comment on specifics, we do expect Droid by Motorola users will receive Android 2.2 as a software upgrade in the near future.
Hopefully Motorola defines “near future” for its fans before long. There’s nothing quite as agonizing as waiting to hear from a phonemaker as to when to expect a software update. Still, things could be worse. You could be a Motorola Backflip owner waiting for the arrival of Q3 just to make the transition from Android 1.5 to 2.1.
