NEW YORK–Motorola and Verizon are set to introduce the latest member of the Droid army on Wednesday. The carrier has already let the identity of the phone out of the bag by posting a teaser site for the Droid X, as well as a YouTube video.
From these two things, we know a few details about the device–4.3-inch screen, HDMI output, 720p video capture–but soon we’ll get the full rundown. We’re at the event now and will be providing updates (we won’t be doing a play-by-play live blog) throughout the press conference.
Display
As we already know, the Droid X will have a 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen edge-to-edge and video will play a huge focus. They have partnered with Blockbuster for an app where you can rent films and buy films and consume them on a number of screens (much like the HTC HD2). The display will have a 16:9 ratio and a WVGA resolution (854×480 pixels; 400,000+ pixels).
Keyboard
The smartphone will have a multitouch keyboard so you can touch multiple keys at the same time. Swype will also come preloaded on the device.
Software
The Droid X is going to ship running Android 2.1 with a revised version of Motoblur. Android 2.2 and Flash 10 will come later this summer and will also be offered to the Droid.

Camera
The Droid X will have an 8-megapixel camera and will be able to capture HD (720p) video. You can display content via HDMI or DLNA.
Wireless
All the usual suspects are here: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G. The Droid X can also be used as a mobile hot spot for up to five devices. The Droid X’s browser will also support full Web with Flash 10.
Processor and memory
No surprise here; the Droid X rocks a 1GHz processor, but Motorola’s Sanjay Jha is touting better performance. Onboard memory comes in at 8GB, and Verizon will ship the phone with a 16GB card (expandable up to 40GB total).
Pricing and availability
The Droid X will be available starting July 15 for $199.99 with a two-year contract and after $100 mail-in rebate. The data plan will be $29.99 for unlimited data, and if you want to use the phone as a mobile hot spot, it will cost you an additional $20 (2GB data cap, 5 cents per MB overage fee). The Droid X will be a U.S-only device and a Verizon exclusive.
