LG’s Optimus L Series, which made its debut at Mobile World Congress last year, is selling at a rate of one per second, the handset maker accidentally revealed today in a press release.
According to LG, it has sold 15 million Optimus L devices since last February. The company mistakenly released the news today and had planned to announce the tally on Sunday.
LG has made a strong push for the smartphone market with a growing number of Optimus handsets. The company’s L series, which represents the mid-range of its line, has helped boost its standing in the Android marketplace. Still, LG finds itself a distant competitor to Apple and Samsung, the dominant forces in the mobile market.

However, given the success of the Optimus L, it’s no surprise that LG earlier this week announced the second generation of the series will be unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress taking place later this month in Barcelona. The updated series will include successors to LG’s L7, L5, and L3 handsets.
So far, LG has only announced international availability across its L-series. The company is, however, expected to announce plans to launch its devices in the U.S.
