Looks like LG is having another go at making a 3D phone. The follow-up to last year’s Optimus 3D has leaked online and is set to offer another round of glasses-free three-dimensional kicks.
Reportedly codenamed the CX2, Pocketnow has acquired leaked images of the new phone, as well as a selection of specs. The exciting news is that the Optimus 3D 2 will reportedly be able to convert 2D material into 3D before firing it out of its 4.3-inch display, and into your eyes.
We have to admit, when we’ve seen 2D-to-3D conversion before (in 3D tellies for example), it’s never wound up looking particularly good. We’ll reserve judgement until we’ve laid eyes on this phone for ourselves though.
Elsewhere, the Optimus 3D 2 will supposedly sport a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and dual 5-megapixel cameras around the back, to be used for taking 3D photos. It’s reckoned to measure just under 10mm in depth to boot. The kicker? Pocketnow reckons it’ll arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which isn’t the latest version.
The Optimus 3D didn’t exactly blow our socks off when it came out last summer. We awarded it three stars and criticised the fact that the 3D only works in landscape mode and that there wasn’t much 3D stuff out there to enjoy anyway. This follow-up could address those points, so we’re intrigued to get an eyes-on.
LG will almost certainly be showing off the Optimus 3D 2 at Mobile World Congress, a big phone-fest at the end of February, so we shouldn’t have long to wait.
The Optimus 3D 2 has leaked hot on the heels of the LG X3, another rumoured device from LG that is expected to be powered by a quad-core processor, and should arrive running Ice Cream Sandwich, which is the latest version of Android.
