The Boy Genius Report has obtained what appears to be a full set of hardware details for the much-anticipated Galaxy Nexus. Formerly known as the Nexus Prime, BGR says the handset will carry both Samsung’s Galaxy moniker, as well as the familiar Nexus branding.
If you wondered why Verizon might have passed on the Samsung Galaxy S II this fall, this next bit will clear that up: according to the anonymous source, the Galaxy Nexus will be an exclusive to the carrier when it launches this year. This isn’t to say that other wireless providers won’t jump on board at a later date, rather Verizon simply has a head start.
Previous Nexus devices started with a singular carrier and then expanded to others after a few months. Considering that the leaked spec sheet states “LTE/HSPA depending on carrier,” I would like to hope that all the major players get involved.
Details for the smartphone include a stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience, void of any Samsung TouchWiz UI or Verizon applications. What’s more, a reported new feature is the ability to monitor data consumption on a per-application basis.
Getting to the meat and potatoes, the hardware is said to include a TI OMAP 4460 dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a 5-megapixel camera capable of 1080HD video recording. A front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, NFC, a 1,750 mAh battery, and support for Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth are also expected to be packed into the 9mm thick body. Compared with the features we were hoping to see, this looks to knock it out of the park on nearly every aspect.
Perhaps the one feature that will garner the most discussion is the display, which is rumored to come in at 4.65 inches and feature Samsung’s Super AMOLED HD technology. With a 1,280×720-pixel resolution, this curved glass screen is expected to provide soft key navigation buttons.
Samsung has an event scheduled for October 11 at CTIA where we fully anticipate getting to see the Galaxy Nexus take center stage.
