Leaked case points to tall, lean iPhone 6

If this case is based on a real upcoming iPhone, it looks to be about the size of the Nexus 5.

A purportedly leaked case that appears to be from a New Jersey-based company could be one of the first tangible pieces of evidence that the iPhone 6 will show us what an iPhone can look like all grown up. Or, at least with a larger, 4.7-inch screen.

We get a full tour of the hot pink case in question in the video below from Canadian Lewis Hilsenteger on his YouTube channel “Unbox Therapy.” Lending a little bit of credibility to this leak is the fact that Hilsenteger gives credit to Australian leak-meister Sonny Dickson for the hook-up. Dickson gave us a detailed early look at the iPhone 5S and 5C last August.

When the purported iPhone 6 case is placed next to an iPhone 5S, Nexus 5 and Galaxy Note 3, it seems to be most similar in shape and size to an even thinner Nexus 5.

The case also seems to indicate the power switch may be moving to the side of the device from the top, as has been the custom for the iPhone so far. As Hilsenteger points out, this makes sense for a larger device that takes up more of your palm, especially if you don’t have freakishly long fingers to reach all the way to the top edge of your device like me.

The case is also much thinner than might be expected. When placed next to an iPhone 5S, the case is clearly thinner than the entire phone.

Of course, I’ve not been able to confirm this is a legit iPhone 6 case. The only real indication that it was designed with an Apple product in mind is that the cutouts for the camera, microphone, speaker and lightning connector all roughly match up with what we’ve seen in the past from the likes of the iPhone 5S.

However, while it isn’t mentioned anywhere in the video or elsewhere, this case seems pretty clearly to me to come from the American accessories company Cimo out of Paterson, N.J. I’ve had one of their cases on my Moto X for months and recognized the distinctive curve design on the back and the raised braille-like grips right away. They make pretty good, inexpensive cases for most of the big phones, like the Galaxy S4 and the most recent iPhone generations.

This could still be the work of someone with too much time to burn simply playing around with a Cimo case or a knock-off, but the fact that it is thinner than the Nexus 5 seems to lend more credence.

Watch the whole video below and let me know if you think we’re looking at the future or just a piece of pink plastic.
