Apple may be planning to beef up the iSight camera in its upcoming iPhone 6 smartphone, according to a report via GforGames.

Citing Chinese site Digi-wo.com, the report said Apple may be upgrading to a new 13-megapixel Sony camera sensor in its iPhone 6. The company’s current 5S, 5C, and 4S smartphone cameras offer 8 megapixels.

Rumors on the capabilities and components of the highly anticipated iPhone 6 have been heating up amid broad expectations that Apple will unveil its next smartphone around September. The company is widely expected to come out with two models — one a 4.7-inch version and, later, a 5.5-inch version — as Apple tries to keep up with a trend toward bigger-display smartphones and also maintain a top position in the market.

Also, an alleged new cover glass for the device was leaked this month, showing that Apple may be switching from Corning’s Gorilla Glass to a harder sapphire-glass display.

Apple, which has a reputation for maintaining absolute secrecy about its plans, has remained tight-lipped on the expected iPhone 6. The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
