iOS 7 beta 6 out now, last update before iPhone 5S lands

iOS beta 6, the last test version of iOS 7, is here. In the run-up to the next iPhone and iPad, the sixth and final  beta version of Apple’s new software heralds the final release — and with it, the next iPhone.

iOS 7 is still in the Beta testing phase, which means developers can try it out but it’s not available to the public just yet. Beta 6 arrived earlier than expected, but aside from an assortment of bug fixes doesn’t give much away about what we can expect from the next generation of iPhone and iPad.

After this final beta update, the final enchilada — the gold master version — will be sent to developers ahead of the public launch and the announcement of the new iPhone 5S and 5C, expected on 10 September.

Previous updates hinted at the long-rumoured fingerprint scanner some believe will be built into the new iPhone, to unlock the phone and possibly make secure purchases while you’re out and about.

iOS 7 is the most dramatic restyling of Apple’s mobile experience, changing the icons and home screen and introducing a range of new features to bring the iPhone up to speed with other operating systems such as Android.
