Code in Apple’s iOS 5 suggests the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad may soon be able to capture panoramic photographs.
The code, uncovered by developers, includes the phrases ‘pano_option’, ‘saving_panorama” and ‘cancel_pano_button_title”, just beneath options for eradicating red eye.
There’s speculation as to whether the software will allow two or more photos to be stitched together to create the panoramic effect, or whether a super-wide, extra-tall or 360-degree picture could be created from a movie.
With more creative image-processing options making it into iOS 5, such as the ability to crop and rotate photos, Apple must surely be looking at upgrading the camera hardware too. Rumours of an 8-megapixel camera for the iPhone 5 have been doing the rounds for ages.
We’ve already looked at some apps that might struggle to survive when iOS 5 arrives. It looks like existing panoramic-photo apps will soon be joining them.
