Huawei’s 10

The first images of a 10-inch Huawei MediaPad have surfaced days ahead of Mobile World Congress, where we expect Huawei to make the tablet part of its announcements.

Early details suggest an Android 4.0 experience, with an 8-megapixel camera, a microSD expansion slot, and 3G connectivity. There’s no indication what the processor and memory situation may be; however, I’d expect at least a dual-core CPU and 16GB internal storage.

Judging by the company’s recent Android efforts, I anticipate that Huawei will want to keep its foot on the gas to keep pace with other, bigger players. The year started off quickly for the Chinese OEM as it announced the Ascend P1S smartphone, one of the first to offer 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich outside of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus debut device.

Recent rumors indicate that Huawei will also announce a quad-core Diamond series phone at Mobile World Congress, so a tablet counterpart may not be out of the question, especially since it’s nearly been a year since Huawei unveiled the 7-inch MediaPad.

Additional details we may see on the 10-inch MediaPad tablet include a metal exterior, an obviously thin design, and a dock connector at the base. Although Huawei has yet to become a household name here in the United States, it’s hard to imagine the larger carriers turning a blind eye for much longer.

Surely Cricket Wireless, MetroPCS, and U.S. Cellular aren’t the only providers to see potential in high-end hardware and budget-friendly prices.
