HTC’s flagship smartphone, the One, has inched towards 5 million units sold since its launch about a month ago, an unidentified HTC executive has told the Wall Street Journal.
Speaking to the Journal on Wednesday, the unidentified executive said that “orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply.” He blamed the shortage on issues with component availability, and nothing his own company is doing.

HTC has been in a world of trouble over the last couple of years as demand for its devices has fallen. Although 5 million units sold sounds good to this point, the executive cautioned that it’s still too early to tell “if it’s doing really well or not.”
HTC is facing a firestorm of competition from chief rival Samsung. That company recently launched its own flagship device, the Galaxy S4, and according to its own executives, hit 10 million units sold in less than a month of availability. Apple’s iPhone 5, another consumer favorite, has also hit HTC hard with millions of units sold each month.
