HTC Edge quad

Dual-core? Pah. The HTC Edge, a phone that could very well be the world’s first quad-core handset, scoffs at your mobile’s inferior powers.

According to Pocketnow
, the Edge packs an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, giving it a phenomenal four 1.5GHz cores. That’s some serious power. We’re expecting big things of this already, and it’s not even official yet.

The Nvidia Tegra 3 is expected early next year for smart phones, so the Edge could launch in the first months of 2012.

Quite ridiculous processing power aside, the Edge is expected to be quite similar to the HTC Rezound that was announced last week (though only for the US). The screen should be 720p HD resolution, inside is 1GB of RAM, and on the back there’s an 8-megapixel camera with a 28mm, f/2.2 lens. Beats Audio is expected as standard. About the only difference we can see is the screen size, which stands at 4.7-inches, as opposed to the Rezound’s 4.3-inches.

In short, the Edge is quite a beast.

Possible extras include the suite of HTC content service, such as HTC Listen music store, Read bookshop, Play gaming hub, Watch movie service, etc. It could also be the first HTC to come with Ice Cream Sandwich as standard.

It looks very much like the successor to the Rezound, so don’t expect it until next year — and who knows if we’ll see it in the UK at all, considering HTC seems to have stiffed us on the Rezound. Fingers crossed though.

If it does make an appearance in Europe, we’re expecting to see it at Mobile World Congress in February. If the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD is there too, it promises to be quite a show.
