Google inadvertently confirms Galaxy Nexus as first Jelly Bean phone

Google appears to have, um, spilled the beans about which Android device will be the first smartphone to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

As first caught by Droid Life, a small Google Play product listing identifies the unlocked Galaxy Nexus as the lucky handset.

You’ll notice that the text doesn’t name the first device to come loaded with Android 4.1, leaving more room for the presumed Nexus 7 tablet to take that honor. With Google I/O taking place in less than a week, we’ve gotten all but official confirmation that we’ll see a 7-inch tablet with stock Android and a $200 (or less) price tag.

Rumors have tied Asus and Google together for months now, and many are expecting a quad-core Tegra 3 chipset on the cheap.

Android 2.0 Donut and 2.1 Eclair were successive major releases, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and 4.1 Jelly Bean look to follow suit. Considering Google’s track record of announcing updates, I suspect we’ll hear something about “coming weeks” from the Android team at Google I/O. As to when it actually happens, though, could turn out to be months from now.
