It looks like we spoke too soon this morning when we reported BlackBerry Messenger was back online — despite RIM saying everything was tickety-boo with its BlackBerry-to-BlackBerry messaging service, we’ve been hit with loads of comments on the site and on our Facebook page that say the service is still borked.
At about 11am yesterday, BlackBerry Messenger, email and Internet were knocked offline by dicky servers in RIM’s Slough-based centre. The problems then spread across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Ungood.
Some 20 hours later, RIM issued a statement that said, “The issue was resolved and services are operating normally,” but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all, leaving irate BlackBerry users fuming at their phones.
Comments on our site read, “Mine’s stopped working again…”, “LIES! My BBM is not working!” and, “Mine was working but it has now stopped, yet again… BlackBerrys = waste of money!”
Meanwhile on our Facebook wall comments suggest BBM is “Not working at all!” and, “Not working here again, came online this mornin’ but now offline.”
We’ve seen several people saying the service is online and “has been fine”, which suggests to us that the outages are intermittent, or not be affecting everyone. It’s certainly frustrating for BlackBerry owners though, who find their mobiles hobbled.
We’ve seen no comment on the matter from RIM, despite a deluge of complaints to its UK Facebook page. We’ve contacted the company to ask what’s what, and we’ll let you know if and when we hear back. In the meantime, let us know whether BBM is working for you in the comments section below, or on our Facebook page.
