Ready for the Samsung Galaxy S7? Mark your calendar for February 21

Samsung will reveal its next Galaxy device at an event on February 21 in Barcelona, according to an invitation sent out Sunday afternoon PT.

The invitation to the “Unpacked” event doesn’t explicitly say Samsung will unveil the seventh generation of its Galaxy phone, the S7, but if it doesn’t, the South Korean electronics giant might as well pack it up and go home. All signs point to the electronics giant using the event to launch the most recent version (or versions) of its signature handset. And Samsung had better do this right.

The electronics giant needs a hit with the Galaxy S7. Despite positive reviews and a welcome design move from plastic to metal and glass, 2015’s Galaxy S6 didn’t keep Samsung from losing its global footing as budget-conscious buyers gravitate toward phones from Motorola, Xiaomi and Huawei. And even given Samsung’s position as the world’s largest smartphone vendor, it hasn’t put a dent in iPhone sales.
