Apple has revealed that Angry Birds was one of the top-grossing apps of the year in the iTunes Store. The annual
iTunes Rewind charts look back at who’s been buying what, as Doctor Who and The Inbetweeners rub shoulders with Mad Men, Eminem and Lady Gaga.
The festive Angry Birds Christmas edition means a turkey won’t be the only bird livening up your festive season. Other high-grossing apps include TomTom and CoPilot sat-nav software, Tetris and Call of Duty: Zombies.
Top apps of the year include retro camera app Hipstamatic, and the Plants vs Zombies game, which offers horticultural horror high jinks. Free aggregation app Flipboard, which displays your friends’ socially shared links in one place on your iPad, joins ambient game Osmos on the list. Osmos made it into our round-ups of the best iPhone games and the best iPad games of the year.
The iPad’s top-grossing apps include Apple’s own Pages, Numbers and Keynote, as well as The Times and those aggravated avians again.
On the music front, the top sellers were Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie, Owl City’s Fireflies, and Airplanes by BoB and Hayley Williams. Usher, Katy Perry and Tinie Tempah also sold well. Popular albums included those by Mumford & Sons, Eminem, Florence and the Machine, Plan B and Lady Gaga.
The Inbetweeners, Doctor Who, Gavin and Stacey, Outnumbered, and Misfits were popular in the television section. US hits, such as Mad Men, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Lost and 30 Rock, lit up the small screen alongside retro classics, such as Only Fool and Horses, Spooks and I’m Alan Partridge.
Google and Yahoo have also released their top searches of 2010, featuring such luminaries as Nicki Minaj, Tiger Woods, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole, Ellie Goulding and Hulk Hogan’s ex-wife. We especially enjoyed Yahoo’s presentation of the data in a cheery infographic, turning the frown upside down on such cheery happenings as the Haiti earthquake, Deepwater oil spill and financial armageddon.
