New iPad mini gets Retina display at last, plus A7 chip

The iPad mini has been given a long-awaited resolution bump, with Apple’s long-awaited Retina display finally arriving on the tiny tablet.

The new 7.9-inch iPad mini also benefits from Apple’s powerful 64-bit A7 processor, and has the same number of pixels as the super-skinny new iPad Air. It lands in shops in late November — click here for your full iPad Mini UK prices and release date.

The sawn-off slate comes in the same silver and grey colours as the iPhone 5S — though sadly there’s no gold option.

Announced at an Apple event in the US, Apple also took the opportunity to discuss software such as its upcoming OS X Mavericks update, which is out today, for precisely zero pounds.
