Motorola slides with the Flipside

SAN FRANCISCO — The Motorola Flipside is one of three Android handsets that Motorola announced for AT&T this Tuesday. We had a chance to take a look at it, and it’s overall a decent and simple Android smartphone. We like the slide-out QWERTY keyboard–it is roomy and the keys have a nice raised texture–and the 3.1-inch high-res HVGA display. The Flipside also has a trackpad underneath the display in case you want an alternative to the touch screen for navigating the phone.

The Flipside is 4.31 inches long by 2.26 inches wide by 0.59 inch thick, which we think is a good size. It ships with Android 2.1 and it also has the enhanced version of MotoBlur that lets you move and resize preloaded widgets, and apply customized filters so you don’t get inundated with too many messages. Features include a 3-megapixel fixed focus camera with digital zoom, GPS, an FM radio, the usual Android Webkit browser with Flash Lite, and Motorola’s CrystalTalk Plus technology that promises to improve call quality.

Motorola said the Flipside will be available for $99.99 on AT&T in time for the holiday season. You can check out our video and photos for a closer look at the Flipside.
