The Motorola Razr Maxx smart phone will be arriving in Europe from May this year, the company has confirmed, adding that the new smart phone will definitely be heading to the UK.
The Razr Maxx is already out in the US, under the name Droid Razr Maxx. It looks a lot like last year’s Motorola Razr, but packs a buxom 3,300mAh battery that Motorola reckons gives the phone 17.6 hours of talk time.
Staying alive away from the mains comes at a cost though — the Razr Maxx is 8.9mm thick, meaning it’s not as skinny as the svelte Razr, which measures an astonishingly thin 7.1mm when you spin it on its side.
That’s not much extra bulk, and I’m sure there are plenty of folks out there who’d happily put up with a slightly heftier mobile if it meant not having to giving their phone a power cable to suck on every few hours.
Elsewhere the specs appear to be similar to the Razr. A 4.3-inch screen occupies the front of the phone, while a 1.2GHz dual-core processor is powering the Maxx’s insides. There’s an 8-megapixel camera around the back.
Our biggest issue with the Razr however wasn’t battery life — my colleague Andrew Hoyle squeezed seven and a half hours out of the slender smart phone when he ran high-definition video on a constant loop.
The fact that it arrived running Android 2.3 Gingerbread was our main gripe with the the Razr. The Maxx is listed as ‘upgradeable’ to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Motorola’s website, so it looks like the Maxx will also land running an older version of Android.
That’s frustrating when new mobiles like the HTC One X are launching with the newest edition ready to rock.
