Motorola Moto G on sale now for £120

Motorola is looking to make a dent in the British smart phone market with the Moto G, a new Android phone boasting a UK price tag of just £135 for the 8GB model and £159 for the 16GB version — or less, because Phones 4U is selling it right now for £120.

Phones 4U is offering the phone online as you read this, and starts selling the phone in stores this Friday, 15 November. It costs for £120 when you buy a tenner of  pay as you go top-up. O2 will sell the Moto G from 28 November — that’s a release date two weeks from now — for £130 on pay as you go.

And the G will also be sold by Orange, T-Mobile, Tesco Mobile, and UnlockedMobiles.

Motorola has taken the wraps off the 4.5-inch high definition Moto G in Sao Paulo today. Under the 720p screen is a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB RAM, and a choice of 8 or 16GB storage. If that doesn’t sound like enough legroom, then tough turtles because there’s no memory card slot. Oh, and no 4G either.

The G runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software, which is nearly the latest version of Android but not quite as up-to-date as the recently-launched Android 4.4 KitKat. Considering Motorola is owned by Google that’s surprising.

Also on board the Moto G is a 2,070mAh battery and 5-megapixel camera, in a casing that comes in a choice of colours. Looks-wise, the G is very similar to the Moto X, which offers a range of customisation options to design your own case for the phone.

We’re putting sticky fingerprints on the Moto G as you read this, so keep it CNET for the first pictures, videos and hands-on first impressions.
