Motorola is the god of hellfire and it brings you… the Motorola Fire! A budget Android mobile that apparently should be spelled using all caps, but we just can’t bring ourselves to do that.
Motorola may have been snapped up by Google, but that doesn’t appear to have delayed its phone-spawning plans — the FIRE Fire brings us out in a sweat, with a 2.8-inch touchscreen nestled comfortably above a full Qwerty keyboard.
It’s running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is the latest version of Android, at least until the next one comes out. There may be compatibility issues between Fire and Ice Cream Sandwich, however. Honk!
Motorola reckons the battery life on this blower is worthy of note — a roasting 8 hours of talk time or 30 days of standby with 3G turned on is the red-hot boast. That would certainly be impressive, but we’ll wait to see how it fares it our exhaustive review before declaring it a winner.
There’s a meagre 3-megapixel snapper round the back, Wi-Fi built in, and an FM radio too.
If those specs don’t sound mind-blowing, it’s because they’re not. But accordingly, the price probably won’t be very high. We’ll know more when it launches in September.
With the Qwerty keypad on board, the Fire goes up against the BlackBerry Curve 9360, a compact, lightweight BlackBerry unveiled only yesterday, which doesn’t have a touchscreen. Could the Fire be the phone to turn the angry teen market away from BlackBerry and on to Android?
