Motorola Droid outed early

As seemingly accidental as Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction, the Motorola Droid has been outed online by the company that intends to sell it, Verizon Wireless, in the US.

The Boy Genius Report was recently sent a hot tip informing it that a detailed product description of the Moto Droid was available on the Verizon website, including a full list of specifications. The page has since been removed, but not before screenshots could be snapped.

The spec list reads like an Android’s dream come true: a 550MHz processor, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, an HTML5 compatible webkit browser, a 3.5mm headphone socket, and it will be bundled with a 16GB microSD card in the US. The Droid sports an impressive 3.7-inch touchscreen with a 480×854-pixel resolution and will run on the latest version of the Android OS, version 2.0. If Android’s dreamed of electric sheep in the past, our guess is that sheep will soon fill the Moto Droid’s standby hours.

Verizon and Motorola have planned a joint media event for the 28th of October, so all of these details will likely be “re-announced” then. In the meantime, leave us a comment below and answer one simple question: is this the iPhone killer?
