Though there was some other news taking the spotlight, Motorola unveiled its Defy+ handset today, confirming recent rumors of a refreshed take on T-Mobile’s version of the Android smartphone. Expected to launch in early fall across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, the “life-proof” device is capable of withstanding the incidental scratches, water, and dust that come with carrying a phone everywhere.

The Defy+ runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, and 2GB of storage, courtesy of a MicroSD card. Motorola doesn’t shy away from mentioning its custom Motoblur experience, prominently listing it among the phone’s details. Additional specifications include a 1,700mAh battery, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and copies of the CardioTrainer and Zinio apps.

Exact pricing and carrier partners were not announced at this time, but we should see movement in this area before long. As difficult as it might be for some of us to admit, “early fall” is right around the corner. Although the United States is not listed as one of the territories expected to receive the Defy+, there are indications that AT&T might ultimately offer the phone. Motorola has a record of providing the same device across multiple markets with different names, so I would not be surprised to see the same happen here.
