Apple’s MacBook Pro line-up will all boast eye-popping retina display screens this year, according to reports. In the company’s annual laptop shake-up, it seems the MacBook Air will be the only Apple laptop left without a high-resolution retina display.
Apple usually introduces new versions of the MacBook laptop line at the annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference in June. And reports say we’ll see new models with retina display and Intel Haswell processors.
Manufacturing gossip blog DigiTimes reckons we’ll see a refreshed range of MacBooks at WWDC in June, in an attempt to revive disappointing sales of the high-priced 13-inch MacBook Pro with retina display. Take this with a pinch of salt, but it certainly seems plausible.
The new line-up is set to see new MacBook Pros coming at the top of the range, with today’s lower-priced models disappearing and the current high-end retina display models dropping in price — again.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes Apple will put retina display screens in cheaper MacBooks this year, ditching the current line-up of non-retina laptops. Kuo doesn’t see retina display coming to the MacBook Air, however. Apple’s skinny-minnie laptop is just too thin for a retina display screen at present.
The Air should find room for an Intel Haswell processor. Intel’s new Haswell chips are expected to turn up in June, just in time for the refreshed Apple line-up.
The long-neglected Mac Pro tower PC could also be in line for a long-awaited refresh, its first in three years. It’s got to be redesigned to meet new European safety standards, anyway.
Improved graphics — up to 4K — could also see higher-resolution iMacs, but that’s probably further off.
