The super-budget Lumia 530 from Microsoft Devices is set to hit Australian retail on September 1.
The 530 will begin life as an Optus exclusive, available as a prepaid bundle for just AU$129. It’ll be in store from the start of September and available online from September 8. It will also be available outright for AU$149 from other retailers.
Once the as-yet-undefined exclusive period is over, the Lumia 530 will make its way to other service providers.
The phone is already available in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. In Europe it has yet to launch, but has been priced at â¬85 .
The 530 features a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The screen is a 4-inch FWVGA panel with a 854×480 resolution. Onboard memory is just 4GB, but the MicroSD slot can provide an additional 128GB.
Unsurprisingly, there’s no 4G support, although it will work across Australia’s HSDPA+ networks, as well at the remaining 2G networks.
The price undercuts the similarly-specced Android-based Motorola E, which costs AU$179.
Update, 12.06pm AEST: Microsoft Devices has told CNET that Telstra has not been confirmed as a carrier for the Lumia 530 at this stage. The story has been edited to reflect this.
