Starting today, Verizon will offer the LG Spectrum 2, an LTE Android phone. Priced at $99.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate, the Spectrum 2 packs quite a punch for the money.
The phone boasts a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 16GB internal storage, and up to 32GB in microSD expansion. What’s more, the Revolution 2 also comes with an 8-megapixel camera, NFC (near-field communication), Bluetooth 4.0, wireless charging capability, and a host of other Android requisites.
If there’s one knock against the budget-friendly Android, it’s the fact that it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With most newer devices coming with 4.1 and 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Spectrum 2 won’t have the same up-to-the-minute appeal as other models. That said, I’m pretty sure that most smartphone buyers would be content with the experience, and it’s likely that the phone will receive an upgrade.
In addition to the Google usual, the Spectrum 2 comes with a few of LG’s signature software touches, including Quick Memo and LG Tag+.
The aggressive $99 price tag is a bargain for all you get, a far cry from the $200 4G LTE handsets we saw when LTE was just starting.
The Spectrum 2 will be available online starting today, and is expected to arrive in Verizon stores in the “coming weeks.”
