LG’s super thin ‘B’ outted ahead of CES

A new Android-based handset from LG leaked to the blogosphere yesterday, introducing the world to the LG “B.” We know very little about the device at this point, save for the fact that it is gunning for the world’s thinnest smartphone, even slimmer than Apple’s iPhone 4.

First found on Phandroid yesterday afternoon, the phone was later confirmed by the handset maker via Twitter. The tweet, which was later retracted, may have been posted in error or without proper clearance.

A theory suggests that the “B” might stand for bright, given the appearance of a super bright screen, which could measure 4 inches. One of the images shows the phone with a considerably brighter display as compared with the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S.

It’s worth noting, however, that the picture may be the result of some basic Photoshop work. Indeed, a closer look at the image shows the B and the Galaxy S sharing an identical screen, right down to the notification icons and cropping of the news article. It’s very rare to see two Android phones from different manufacturers running the exact same apps with the same notification bar.

We’re only a few weeks away from CES 2011 where LG should be showing off the new smartphone. When it comes to LG and its Android efforts, the handset maker is looking more serious by the day.
