LG’s accidentally leaked G3 Stylus will make its official appearance at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin next week, and the announcement timing is anything but coincidental.
The Korean manufacturer’s main rival, Samsung, will be launching its next iteration of the popular Galaxy Note phablet at the show, and LG is perhaps looking to steal some of the stylus-shaped limelight.
In reality though, Samsung doesn’t have much to worry about. The LG G3 Stylus has mid-range specs that won’t trouble the Galaxy Note 4, whose forebears have been among the most powerful phones of their day.
The stylus-equipped LG phone packs a 5.5-inch screen with a measly 960×540-pixel resolution, far from the mighty Quad HD resolution (2,560×1,440 pixels) of the high-end LG G3 . Given the size of the display, this equates to a pretty low count of just 200 pixels per inch.
Furthermore, it’s powered by what appears to be a lower-end quad-core processor that’s clocked at just 1.3GHz. It will have 8GB of onboard storage and 1GB RAM, and no 4G LTE, just 3G.
On the positive side, the G3 Stylus does have a microSD card slot and a 13-megapixel rear camera (though it lacks the laser autofocus of the G3). Many of the G3’s cool software features are in the G3 Stylus, including Knock Code and QuickMemo+.
The G3 Stylus will launch in Brazil in September, followed by countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the CIS regions (Russia and its neighbours). Pricing will be announced at the local launches.
