The LG Optimus Sol is about to emerge from behind the clouds. The sun-inspired new Android smart phone, also known as the LG E730, is designed to be usable even when the sun’s rays would render most phones’ screens tough to see.
The Sol gets its name because LG reckons the screen can be seen better than most in direct sunlight. The 3.8-inch Ultra AMOLED display is designed to be discernable when you’re out and about, instead of being rendered unreadable at the merest hint of clement weather.
It also saves on battery life with LG’s new Dark interface. Apparently it cuts down on the amount of white light emitted, saving power and supposedly extending battery life by nearly a third.
The Sol is powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Inside the phone there’s a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, 512MB RAM and a paltry 150MB of storage. It’ll come with a 2GB microSD card in the box for extra movies and music.
The camera is a 5-megapixel jobbie. You can connect to a TV with DLNA to watch movies from your phone, and it supports Flash 10.1 video too.
The Sol will light up your day in black, white and ‘titan’. LG hasn’t got back to us about what the hell kind of colour titan is meant to be, so we’re going to guess it’s a sort of silvery hue.
The Sol will come out in September. Do you think the sun will shine out of the Sol’s behind, or is it as attractive as a case of sunburn? Strike a light in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
