LG Optimus Sol leaked in video

LG’s latest, sunniest smart phone has been leaked in a video. Dubbed the LG Optimus Sol, it looks to be a mid-range Android mobile.

The video, which appeared on German site Bestboyz, shows off a prototype with a 3.8-inch AMOLED display, and a 5-megapixel camera glued to the back.

The rear of the phone rocks rounded, shiny, black plastic, though apparently the Sol will also be available in silver. We rather like the design, and it looks impressively slim, but there’s not too much to get excited about — the phone’s basically just a shiny black rectangle.

All the interesting stuff is lurking on the inside. There’s a 1GHz processor, and the Sol will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. LG will layer its own interface over the top, which isn’t fantastic news, as current LG Android mobiles use slightly childish icons, and the user experience isn’t as slick as it could be.

The Sol puts us very much in mind of the LG Optimus Black. We weren’t totally sold on that phone’s build quality, although, in most respects, it proved decent enough. If the Sol can keep its price low, it could be a brilliant mid-range smart phone. That’s hardly the most exciting prospect in the world, we know but, hey, people need mid-range smart phones, okay?

The Optimus Sol first popped up on our radar when LG’s roadmap was leaked last month. Back then it was called the LG Victor. We’re not sure which name we prefer — they both sound pretty great.
