Korean electronics manufacturer, LG, today unveiled two shiny new Android-powered smartphones, promising up to 10 new devices in the series before the end of 2010, including an Android-powered tablet PC.
LG calls this series of phones Optimus, and the range will cover smartphones across the pricing tiers and may run on platforms other than Google’s. The two phones launched today are the Optimus One and the Optimus Chic, an obvious play at the tech savvy and fashion conscious alike, with both tipped to be entry-level smartphones which will ship with version 2.2 of the Android platform. The 2.2 version of Android, or Froyo as it’s known, promises to deliver a much faster user experience than the previous version of Android.
The upcoming tablet is still shrouded in mystery, with LG only offering a few measly tidbits of information in its press statement. According to the release, “LG’s tablet will deliver vastly superior performance than other similar devices currently on the market while still managing to be thinner and lighter than competing devices.” Now which competing devices could LG be referring to?
These latest editions bring the total of phones in the Optimus range to five at this time, alongside the budget-conscious Optimus GT540 launching in Australia this week, and the Optimus Q and Optimus Z exclusively in Korea.
