LG’s Optimus 3D smart phone and Optimus Pad tablet herald a big mobile 3D push for the company at Mobile World Congress over the next week. It’s been confirmed that both will make their debut at the show already, but today LG announced a few more details about the innards of its new flagship devices.
The Optimus 3D is all about dual technologies — so much so that it’s enough to make you see double. According to LG’s official announcement, the Optimus 3D will include “an advanced dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture”.
What does that mean? The device will pack a 1GHz, dual-core OMAP 4 processor, with LG making firm promises that it will have “four times more decoders than competing designs”, and that it “doubles the graphics performance of its nearest competitor”. Those claims sound impressive, although we’ll reserve judgement until we’ve seen all the competing products come out at MWC.
LG reiterated that the Optimus 3D will have a glasses-free 3D display, but also confirmed the screen’s size and resolution: 4.3 inches and 480×800 pixels. LG talked in its announcement about the device providing “the world’s first full 3D experience, covering the full spectrum, from recording to viewing and sharing 3D content”.
LG will also unveil its Optimus Pad tablet at MWC. It will have an 8.9-inch display with a 1,280×768-pixel resolution and a 15:9 aspect ratio. The device will also run Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, offer 1080p decoding capability, and pack a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor to make everything hum along charmingly. Most of these details were announced by LG last week, though.
The Optimus Pad also has a 3D camera. LG mentioned that videos shot with this camera could be shared online courtesy of YouTube 3D. We’d expect that to be true in the case of the Optimus 3D smart phone too.
