LG isn’t exiting the mobile-phone business to focus on televisions, it says, contrary to a report in a Korean news website.
A report on Korea’s ETNews website last week suggested that LG, which doesn’t have the same runaway success in mobile devices as its in-country counterpart Samsung, would shift production and development resources to its smart TV platform.
Apparently, though, the report is not accurate. LG told CNET that the story was based on “non-credible sources and uninformed speculation”.
LG has strong credentials in the LED LCD TV space and has been keeping up with or leading the market when it comes to Ultra HD TV and smart TV services, but according to the company, it isn’t abandoning mobiles to shift its focus. “We are more committed than ever in making the LG brand a major player in the mobile space, and we think our products this year speak for themselves,” an LG representative told CNET.
LG has two extremely competitive phones available at the moment in the Google Nexus 5 and LG’s own G2. It also recently released the well-received G Pad 8.3 tablet.
The Korean company also recently reported a third-quarter profit that was largely fuelled by its smartphone division.
