LG is slapping the much-loved Viewty name on yet another touchscreen phone — this time it’s the LG GT405 Viewty GT.
But don’t be fooled into imagining these are the halcyon days of 2007, when the LG KU990 Viewty blew our tiny minds with its great camera and awesome slo-mo video recording. Times have changed and the Viewty brand has spread like ice cream under the sun — this Viewty is simply an affordable phone with some social-networking features.
The Viewty GT is for sale exclusively from the 3 network, and starts at £119 on pay as you go or £15 a month on contract. For that you’ll get a 5-megapixel camera and HSDPA for fast downloads over 3G.
Two home screens give you space for widgets that show live updates of weather and email, and quick links to your contacts. 3 is also throwing in free Skype-to-Skype calls and Windows Live Messenger chats.
The touchscreen is the resistive type, unfortunately, which doesn’t tend to be as responsive or smooth as the capacitive kind you find on higher-end phones such as the HTC Legend. We’ll let you know how the Viewty GT stands up to testing when we get it in for a full review.
