LG’s F60, a midrange phone with 4G LTE, launches this week

LG is releasing another entrant in its line of 4G LTE smartphones.

The LG F60 will go on sale starting this week in Europe, the company announced on Wednesday. Availability in Asia and the Americas will follow, though pricing and carrier availability will not be revealed until the actual launch.

The LG F60 is a midrange smartphone, featuring a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor and a 4.5-inch display. The device offers 4GB or 8GB of onboard storage; LG did not mention whether the phone includes expandable memory. The rear-facing camera comes in at 5 megapixels, and the front-facing camera at 1.3 megapixels.

LG captured 4.9 percent worldwide share in the second quarter, putting the company in fifth place worldwide behind Samsung, Apple, Huawei, and Lenovo. While that might not be the ideal place for LG, it is followed by a collective “others” — a space in which no company wants to get lumped in.

LG is making a fuss about the F60’s 4G LTE compatibility, saying that the device expands its “footprint” in that arena. The device is running Android 4.4.2 KitKat and comes in black or white versions. Actual availability of those colors will vary by market.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
