Lenovo kicks off $600 Windows 8 Miix convertible tablet

Lenovo is trying to reel in customers with a new low-priced Windows 8 convertible.

Available for order now and estimated to ship by August 28, the Miix is a 10.1-inch Windows 8 tablet with a “quick flip” AccuType keyboard that converts it into a notebook. The keyboard is also detachable, so the device can stay slim when in tablet mode.

The Miix starts at just $599.99. For that price, the specs are on the low end but still enough to power Windows 8. The Mixx is equipped with a 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, Intel HD graphics, 2GB of memory, and 64GB of flash storage.

The 10.1-inch touch screen offers a resolution of 1,366×768. A 1-megapixel camera provides the snapshots and a 2-cell battery provides up to 10 hours of life on a single charge. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 are also part of the package as are a Micro-USB port, a MicroSD card reader, and a Micro-HDMI connector.

Lenovo recently launched a couple of other new Windows 8 convertibles, namely the Yoga 11S and the ThinkPad Helix. Both of those are much beefier than the Mixx but also quite a bit pricier.
