Of all the major wireless providers in the United States, Verizon Wireless is the only provider that hasn’t announced an Android 4.0-powered HTC smartphone for 2012. But that could change in short order if a leaked successor to the Incredible actually comes to pass.
Details and images of the handset, once codenamed Fireball, surfaced this week that suggest what Verizon has in store as we approach the two-year anniversary of the Droid Incredible. The rumored name of (Droid) Incredible 4G doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering Verizon’s push of the 4G LTE network.
The design is reminiscent of its predecessors with a contoured battery cover, but it pulls in aesthetics from last autumn’s HTC Rezound. Internally, the Droid Incredible 4G boasts a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, a 4-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel camera, and 4G LTE connectivity. The phone is powered by Ice Cream Sandwich and runs HTC Sense 4.0; it also features NFC, MHL, Bluetooth 4.0, and the other fare of Android requisites.
It’s unclear when Verizon will announce the Incredible 4G, though Pocketnow says the carrier could get it to market by the end of April. Should they not make that cut, CTIA in early May could be a good venue for a high-profile debut.
