KitKat is coming to the HTC One from the end of January, or sooner if you have the Google Edition. The latest Android update, Android 4.4 makes its debut on the new Google Nexus 5, and will soon hit HTC’s flagship with Sense 5.5 along for the ride.
HTC told me that the KitKat software update will also bring with it an update to HTC’s own Sense interface. It’s the extra layers of features, like Sense, added by HTC and other manufacturers on top of Google’s software that delay new Android updates from reaching phones, as manufacturers test and approve their bloatware and add-ons to make sure they still work with the updated Android system.
But that doesn’t mean HTC One fans have to wait until after Christmas: the Google Play Edition, an HTC One with stock Android, will receive the KitKat update from the end of November.
Android 4.4 KitKat took a bow on the Google Nexus 5 smart phone last week, and you can also find it on the Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets “in the coming weeks“.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google edition is also expected to be updated before regular phones, including the vanilla S4.
Will KitKat give the HTC One a new lease of life? What do you think of KitKat and the Nexus 5? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
