On Monday, Apple released iOS 8.1, which enabled the company’s new payment system, Apple Pay, on the NFC-equipped iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. But how does the system actually work, you ask? Comedian Jimmy Kimmel, of all people, definitively shows you how to use Apple Pay.

The process is outlined for you in the video above. The first step, of course, is to bring your compatible iPhone to a participating retailer. Then, stand there in frustration as the employee looks clueless and grabs a nearby store manager, who also has no clue why you’re trying to buy something by holding a smartphone up to the credit card reader. Next, apologize to everyone in line for holding up the process even more than someone who’s trying to pay with a check. Then get your debit card out of your wallet and swipe it through the dang reader already.

In reality, of course, Apple Pay actually works pretty slick, according to early reports from those brave enough to venture to a nearby McDonald’s or Walgreens and give it a go.
