iPhone 5S and 5C now work on O2’s 4G after update

O2 4G has hit the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The new iPhones can now connect to O2’s extra-fast network once you’ve done a quick update.

In order to benefit from faster data speeds, you need to update your new iPhone’s settings. Either connect to iTunes or go into your settings when connected to Wi-Fi and you should be prompted to update your carrier settings; click here for full instructions.

The iPhone went on sale just over a week ago. O2’s 4G LTE network is already up and running for most phones, but the iPhone didn’t work on 4G until now. To make up for the week without super-speedy data, O2 will knock off £5 off your 4G bill.

According to speed tests, EE has the fastest UK 4G, while newcomers Vodafone and O2 are roughly neck-and-neck speed-wise. O2’s 4G network covers London, Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Sheffield, and Nottingham, with Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh to follow by the end of the year. Vodafone 4G is now available in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield, with Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester to follow this month.
