More than 4 million new iPhones flew off shelves this weekend. The iPhone 4S landed in millions of proud owners’ hands in the three days since launching in the UK and around the world on Friday.
Many iPhone fans queued overnight outside Apple Stores — including us! — to get their next-generation Apple phone. Others simply moseyed into their nearest Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse, or ordered from any of the major networks stocking the phone.
That figure includes the people who ordered the 4S before it was released, whether SIM-free from Apple or on a network contract from O2, Orange, Tesco Mobile, T-Mobile or Vodafone.
Meanwhile more than 25 million Apple acolytes have updated their existing iPhones, iPads and iPods to iOS 5, the latest version of Apple’s mobile software. 20 million of them have signed up for new online storage and syncing service iCloud.
