Apple’s set a date for WWDC, the company’s annual developer conference. It’s expected to lift the lid on a new version of iOS, with ever such a slight chance that we’ll see the iPhone 5 as well.
The conference kicks off on 11 June and lasts until the 15th. Last year Apple used the opportunity to tell us all about iOS 5, which introduced wireless updates and a notification system shamelessly nicked from Android.
You don’t have to be a master mathematician to figure out that one year on, we’ll probably see iOS 6 given an airing. What are you hoping to see? Let me know in the comments.
New Mac OS X details are also likely to emerge, with Mountain Lion — the latest version of the Mac desktop software — due out in the summer.
Traditionally Apple has used WWDC as an opportunity to give a new iPhone an airing. It broke that streak last year however, choosing instead to show off its new blower in October at a separate event.
Apple could go back to a summer reveal, but I think it’s unlikely, as it would mean the iPhone 4S being on sale for less than a year. With the Cupertino company announcing it flogged 35 million 4S’ in the last three months alone, I can’t see it replacing a winning product earlier than necessary.
WWDC will run from 11-15 June in San Francisco. If you were hoping to attend, bad luck — tickets have already sold out.
