After iOS 5 was released alongside the iPhone 4S this past fall, Twitter accounts grew by more than 25 percent, largely because of its integrated place in Apple’s mobile operating system.
Now, according to tech site iMore, iOS 5.1 could bring a similar integration for Facebook.
Not that Facebook really needs more users.
But, it should come as a nice addition to iOS for those of us who already use Facebook. It’s unclear exactly how integrated Facebook might actually be, but iMore shows a look at the iOS 5.1 beta 3 Contacts app that has an entry space for adding your Facebook username.
If it’s anything like Twitter, the Facebook integration will allow users to post pictures and video to their Facebook accounts directly from iOS 5, foregoing the need to open the Facebook app.
I have to be honest here. Despite Twitter’s integration in iOS 5, I have to admit I don’t really use it. I’m pretty active on Twitter, but my workflow generally demands using the Twitter app. Because the integration is basically only for sharing media, I find myself never really using it, opting instead for Instagram (for photos) and the Twitter app itself for status updates and catching up on my followers.
Having Facebook available as a sharing option would certainly be cool, but again, I am failing to see a place for it in the way I use that service. Perhaps others would use it more? Do you use Twitter’s integrated features in iOS 5, or are you still using the app? Let me know in the comments!
