One of the most eagerly awaited mobile games ever, Infinity Blade will be released on 9 December for £3.99 — high for an iPhone game, but not much more than the cost of a London pint.
The Unreal Engine title will only be supported on higher performance devices, according to Pocket Gamer. This means it’ll work on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and 3G and 4G iPod touch. Although this is a shame for owners of older iPhones and touches, it’s what most people would have expected, considering the graphical grunt needed to run the game.
The app will be universal, so there’s just one download for every compatible device. It will have multiplayer with Games Center — details haven’t been announced, but we imagine you’ll be able to fight in online head-to-head duels.
Infinity Blade has you controlling a knight, making his way through a gorgeous castle, fighting huge monsters in search of end-of-game boss the God-King. As well as actively fighting enemies in real time by swiping your finger and dodging left and right, there are RPG elements as you gain experience and improve your gear.
We’re incredibly impressed by the game’s console-like visuals. And no less than Apple panjandrum Steve Jobs was amazed when he saw the game running for the first time.
We can’t wait to play it, and see what it’ll do to shape the mobile games market — will we see more traditional graphics-heavy action titles like this, or will the cheaper, pick up and play puzzle games continue to dominate?
