Apple has a message for you — it knows iMessage is borked and it’s sorry. We reported yesterday that many iPhone and iPad users have had trouble with the instant messaging service since the upgrade to iOS 7.
“We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update,” Apple said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal.
“In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes impacted users.”
While you’re waiting for an official fix, try this. Go into Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off. Then go to Settings > General > Reset and click Reset Network Settings. With that completed, turn iMessage back on.
The most popular iMessage alternative on iOS is WhatsApp, which works across Android and other platforms too, and has over 300 million users. It may be given a run for its money by BlackBerry’s BBM, which is due to launch on iOS and Android any day now.
iOS 7 has had more than its fair share of problems, including a bug that let you
bypass the lock screen, see saved photos and even share them on Facebook and Twitter. It was patched, along with other problems, by the most recent update to iOS 7.0.2. You can make sure you’re up to date by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.
