LG has spilled the beans on its upgrade plans to the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android — although it’s not all good news. The upgrades won’t start until the second quarter of 2012 (April-June), with some being held back for the third quarter (July-September), Engadget reports. So if you own an LG handset, you could be looking at a nine month wait to get ICS.
Compare this to Samsung, who will start upgrading some of its handsets in the first three months of 2012, and Sony Ericsson, who’s doing the same, and you can’t help but feel a little left out if you own an LG smart phone.
The full list of LG phones getting the upgrade is as follows: from April to June, Ice Cream Sandwich will come to the LG Optimus LTE, LG Prada Phone 3.0, LG Optimus 2X, LG Optimus Sol, LG myTouch Q, and the LG Eclipse. From July to September, the upgrade will be available for the LG Optimus 3D, LG Optimus Black, LG Optimus Big, LG Optimus Q2, and the LG Optimus EX. Exact dates will vary by market, so look out for an announcement nearer the time.
LG made the announcement on its Facebook page, and was then deluged with comments from customers enraged at having to wait. “Really… you think ppl will wait nine months or more for ics… that’s pathetic… get moving,” one wrote. “First and last time I buy an LG device. Oh well,” another said. “This is why your [sic] on your way to eight straight quarters with a loss in revenue when it comes to mobile phones,” another wrote. Ouch. See, big companies, social media works both ways.
