HTC working on phablet of its own, rumors suggest

HTC is ready to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note with a phone/tablet hybrid device of its own, according to recent reports.

A DigiTimes source advises that the HTC device features a 5-inch display with a 1,794×1,080-pixel resolution and is slated to arrive in September or October. That means the full resolution of the device could be 1,920×1,080 pixels with 126 vertical lines reserved for Android’s onscreen buttons.

Whereas DigiTimes is not always the most reputable of sources, this new report matches up nicely with other rumors. Benchmarks for an HTC 6435LVW were recently found online showing an Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz processor coupled with an Adreno 320 GPU. Also worth noting is that the benchmarks make multiple references to Verizon.

History has shown that HTC typically holds an event in early fall to announce new products for the second half of the year. Should that be the case for 2012, we might expect an invitation in the coming weeks.
