What’s German for “oops”? An errant tweet from the German arm of chipmaker Qualcomm has outed the HTC Sensation Android smart phone before its official launch — and Vodafone has revealed it will be the only network to sell the phone.
The Sensation was originally known as the Pyramid, but has been renamed Sensation for the UK. Vodafone has confirmed it packs an 8-megapixel camera on the back, 1.2-megapixel video-calling camera on the front, and 4.3-inch touchscreen, powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Meanwhile Qualcomm_DE tweeted this morning that “Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor powers HTC Sensation”, with a link to a video about the Snapdragon chip.
Qualcomm has now deleted the tweet and Vodafone has removed the Sensation page — presumably after some very concerned phonecalls from HTC. But at this stage die katze is very much out of das tasche. Oops, or “hoppla”, if you’re German and work for Qualcomm.
The Sensation has been heavily leaked in the run-up to its launch, but most phones are. Between manufacturers, networks and the odd premature tweet, the phone industry is leakier than a BP oil pipe.
