HTC Rhyme will get Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC has confirmed that its fashionable Rhyme smart phone will be getting updated to Ice Cream Sandwich, along with many of its other recent mobiles.

In a post on its blog, the Taiwanese company listed all the phones it makes that will be getting an ice-cold scoop of Android 4.0. Lots of those phones aren’t out in here in the UK, and HTC confirmed last month that many of these phones would be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich (updates are already rolling out for the Sensation and Sensation XE), but the HTC Rhyme is new to the list.

If you’ve not been following the Android update saga and are curious about exactly which HTC mobiles will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, I’ve stuck a list of all the UK mobiles that’ll get the update at the bottom of this post.

So what’s missing? It’s bad news if you own the slidey-keyboard Desire Z or the more recent HTC Wildfire S, as these mobiles are absent from the company’s list. It’s looking increasingly unlikely that those phones will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich.

That’s unfortunate, but I bet folks who own those devices would have appreciated earlier confirmation that their kit wouldn’t be getting updated. After all, knowing that you’ll have to stick on your phone’s current software could influence your buying or upgrading decisions.

I’m relieved to see the Rhyme has been added to the update roster, at least. The Rhyme is a reasonably recent addition to the company’s smart phone paddock, and overlooking such a new device would have rankled.

The Rhyme itself it well worth a gander, and comes with a stack of accessories in the box, including a dock, and a charm that gently pulsates when you receive a message. Neato.

Do you own the Rhyme? How do you like it? Are you still waiting on an update for your phone? Tell me in the comments, or over on our Facebook wall.
