HTC promises new ‘sound and camera experience’

Ahead of a press event this month, ailing smartphone maker HTC says it will be offering a “new sound and camera experience” for smartphones this year.

Yesterday on HTC’s official blog, the company ran a teaser that possibly relates to the rumored M7 flagship smartphone. The infographic, titled “A Brief History of Photography,” pokes fun not only at today’s quick-and-easy photography culture, but also prods rivals including Apple and Nokia when it comes to their camera innovations.

The teaser seems to hint that HTC’s next offering will go beyond higher-resolution image capture, and may also feature something like an increased image sensor size — as the infographic mentions Apple’s iPhone 4S and its lack of an increased sensor despite an improvement in megapixel capabilities.

In addition, as HTC is heavily focused on Android, it may be that the rumored flagship phone will not be related to any Windows Phone plans. The Taiwanese phone has recently shipped the HTC Windows Phone 8X.

The Taiwanese phone maker has invited the press to an event taking place in New York on February 19, the week before the big Mobile World Congress event. Although there is little information beyond the date and time, together with a simultaneous event in London, it is expected that the company may be unveiling its rumored new flagship smartphone, the M7.

In addition, according to EVleaks, HTC supposedly will launch two additional devices during 2013, codenamed the HTC M4 and HTC G2. The publication’s sources say that these models are unlikely to launch alongside the M7, the M4 is said to include a 1.2 dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.3-inch 720p display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The G2, an entry-level smartphone, apparently will sport a 1GHz ARM Cortex processor, 3.5-inch HVGA display, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
